"From Thousands to Billions: Coordinated Action Towards 100% Net Zero Carbon Buildings by 2050" - WorldGBC global report

  • Published on January 15, 2018
The purpose of WorldGBC's Advancing Net Zero global project is to ensure that Green Building Councils play their part in ensuring the built environment operates at 100% net zero carbon by the year 2050. Some Green Building Councils will support this objective through the creation of new, ambitious certification systems recognising achievement of net zero carbon in operation. All Green Building Councils will support the project objective through awareness, education, and advocacy on net zero carbon building policy. Regarding the global report, the objective was to clearly set out WorldGBC's position regarding net zero carbon buildings - in the report we clarified the definition we follow, some key principles that GBCs participating in our project will adhere to and so on. The "Call to Action" section also lays out our clear call for the role to be played by each of the business, government and NGO sectors.
The project has been very well-received by participating GBCs and their member companies. A common language and set of goals has emerged in the past year where all stakeholders in our green building community recognise that net zero carbon buildings are ambitious but necessary and entirely achievable.
