Tackling Climate Action at the Local Level: Education for Sustainable Development Projects from the Global RCE Network

This publication highlights outstanding climate education projects from across the Global RCE Network to implement the SDGs through education at the local and regional levels during the Global Action Programme (GAP) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) from 2015-2019. The 12 projects featured cover a broad range of sustainable development challenges, however all include a focus on SDG 13 (Climate Action). The innovative solutions showcase examples of how global goals can be translated into local actions through education and training to respond to the climate crisis.

Promoting sustainable lifestyles has proven to be key to achieve responsible consumption among population. By informing people of the direct and indirect environmental impacts associated with their consumption patterns, along with the actions they can make to tackle them is fundamental to ensure the adoption of long-term habits.  Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) present in their targets 4,7 and 12.8, the sustainable lifestyles as key to achieve sustainable development.
