Journey for Climate
Journey for Climate is an active learning methodology that brings science-based climate education to anyone who wants to expand their knowledge. The route creates a light learning space, fostering the development of socio-emotional skills through game tools and cultural elements. It encourages protagonism and collaboration by inviting participants to put the content into practice in projects related to their contexts and, after closing, encouraging them to become facilitators of the Journey for Climate. For this, it offers training, manuals, tools and support, ensuring the scalability of the technology without losing its essence.
Through the Journeys, Climate Reality Leaders wants to offer scientific knowledge, methods and a support network for Earth's citizens to win the fight against the climate crisis. The organization seeks to make knowledge of the topic accessible to all, contributing to the expansion of voices, diversity in the climate agenda and the adoption of practices aligned with science-oriented solutions.
The Conferences are held from the Climate Reality Project - a global organization founded in 2006 by the Nobel Prize winner and former vice president of the United States of America, Al Gore, represented in Brazil, since 2016, by Centro Brasil no Clima. The organization, with vast educational experience, develops training on the Climate Crisis with the aim of transforming people interested in the topic into activists able to bring about change.
Created in a face-to-face format and carried out with students from Rio de Janeiro's municipal schools in 2018, the Journey for the Climate changed throughout 2020 to become virtual, mainly due to the pandemic - a format that proved to be ideal for achieving the diversity of people, reaching other territories and enabling the scalability of this initiative.

Indirectly, it is imagined that the project has been able to impact at least twice as much through its participants. In addition, it has a community of facilitators capable of replicating the project of 47 people.
The climate crisis is the greatest challenge facing humanity today. Its aggravation jeopardizes Earth's biodiversity, including the survival of the human race. The next 10 years will be crucial for the necessary measures to be taken. In Brazil, the agenda is restricted to specific forums and, often, with scientific and complex language, distancing the subject from the general population. In the country, there are few projects that bring climate knowledge in an accessible and light language, which create learning spaces for ordinary people to be able to make connections of cause and consequence of the climate emergency to their daily lives. Ignorance leads to apathy in relation to the topic, discouraging the adoption of practices (small or large) by Brazilians in their communities. In addition, it is a very polarized topic between scientists and denialists, making it difficult for the vast majority to find themselves between the two opposites. As it is not a popular subject in Brazil, it makes people who have already started their individual journeys on the subject feel alone, without finding peers from a community that can support them.
Learning about climate change and its impacts is also relevant for SDG 12, as the journeys empower consumers to make more responsible and sustainable consumption decisions, providing them with scientific information that should be taken into account. In addition, with the climate journeys, participants also learn about the consequences of excessive consumption on the environment and how this exacerbates the crisis we are experiencing.
