Guidelines on Environmental Product Information in E-Commerce
While consumers use the internet to look up information about a wide range of characteristics of products, online platforms often omit or provide inadequate and misleading environmental product information. This resource provides some guidelines on how the content and the design of environmental product information should fulfill sustainability and good consumer information requirements while promoting transparency. Businesses are responsible for making appropriate product information available; stakeholders in government and civil society have the task of formulating and monitoring quality standards. This brochure provides principles and quality criteria for credible environmental product information, with a special focus on digital media. It also aims at sensitising retailers, industry and service providers to the significance of environmental product information in e-commerce, and features an overview of options, tools and good practice examples.
