Food Waste Reduction Roadmap 2020 Progress report

The first Food Waste Reduction Roadmap report was published in March 2019. Here, 185 organisations committed to the Roadmap, including 156 food businesses, whilst 121 large businesses provided evidence of having implemented 'Target, Measure, Act' and more than 40 businesses publicly reported food surplus and waste data in 2019. The Food Waste Reduction Roadmap Progress Report 2020 published in September of 2020 outlined the second year of the Roadmap. Here, more than 70 new food organisations have joined the Roadmap in the last twelve months, committing to 'Target, Measure, Act' on food waste in their operations, supply chain and customer base. The businesses implementing 'Target, Measure, Act' have increased from 121 to 171 and 180,000t of food (worth £300m) across 45 companies reporting comparable data has been saved from becoming waste by Roadmap members. By 2026 the aim is to have 100% of the UK largest food businesses committed to 'Target, Measure, Act', who will be able to influence over 2.3 Mt of food waste from their direct operations (>70% of all UK supply chain food waste), worth over £2.8 billion a year."
In 2020, outlined in the Food Waste Reduction Progress Report 2020, more than 70 new food organisations have joined the Roadmap in the last twelve months, committing to 'Target, Measure, Act' on food waste in their operations, supply chain and customer base. The businesses implementing 'Target, Measure, Act' have increased from 121 to 171 and 180,000t of food (worth £300m) across 45 companies reporting comparable data has been saved from becoming waste by Roadmap members. In 2020, the first Whole Chain food waste reduction Plan has also been initiated. Here, WRAP and IGD invite businesses to work together across the end-to-end supply chain to take joint actions that reduce farm to fork food waste. The new Whole Chain food waste reduction Plan toolkit will support businesses to achieve their food waste reduction targets in support of both Courtauld 2025 and UN Sustainable Development Goals 12.3.
