European white paper

  • Published on January 8, 2021
European Union published its new Circular Economy action plan at the beginning of 2020. This white paper lists 20 policy recommendations that should be implemented by EU in order to make products more durable. They can be included in some specific directives or in the coming new regulation on Ecodesign. The white paper contains also 12 interviews of experts and activists from various organisations (NGOs, European institutions, research…)
With this white paper, HOP aims at guiding public policy to end premature obsolescence and go towards more repairable and durable products in the European Union. HOP identified three pillars for action at the EU level : impose high quality and durability standards for all products sold in the European market; give consumers a better information on products especially concerning their durability; finally European institutions must work on removing all obstacles to repair and give a real "right to repair" to all Europeans.
