Environmental hotel footprint (label) for hotels

To measure and improve the environmental footprint of 10 pilot hotels, and communicate the hotels' performance through a label to the guests.
Under the Advance SCP project, a methodology previously rolled out in France to calculate and communicate through a label the environmental impacts of hotels has been successfully applied through 10 pilots in Morocco. The hotels have assessed their environmental footprint and received a certificate with their label outlining performance on water, climate change, resource use and the use of bio/labelled products at a side event at COP22. The hotels have received training and developed action plans to improve their performance. The assessments found that water and air-conditioning are the most intensive in terms of energy consumption and have the least environmentally friendly impact. The initial promises for environmental and economic gains – after the implementation of the recommendations extracted from the action plans and based on the methodology and the Winggy software – are as follows: - 5 to 22 Dirhams saved per overnight stay; - 20% reduction in water consumption onsite ; - 22% reduction in energy consumption ; - 17% reduction in CO2 emissions ; - 30% rise in environmentally-friendly and organic certified products.
