  • Published on January 4, 2018
One of the biggest challenges for implementing sustainable procurement policy on the ground is the lack of awareness among stakeholders. The stakeholders, who are deeply engaged in the procurement process, are often not aware of the nuances of sustainable procurement i.e. what, why and how? This blog aims to fill this gap by addressing their concerns. Since beginning in 2013, it has been accessed more than 21,000 times by stakeholders from more than 30 countries around the world.
During several discussions with my colleagues and friends on sustainable procurement, I felt that average knowledge of public procurement professionals on this subject is very poor in India. If at all India has to bring policy for integrating sustainability in the purchasing decisions, creating awareness of these stakeholders is one of the fundamental challenges that need to be addressed. The aim of this blog is to provide right and relevant information on sustainable procurement to all those, who are concerned about the sustainability of our economic growth. The idea was to build a critical mass of stakeholders, who can join hands together to hasten the implementation of sustainable procurement policy in India. The blog articles are focussed on providing practical, relevant and topical information to help stakeholders to frame their own worldview on sustainable procurement. This blog was started in 2013 and since then more than 30 posts have been published. In early days, the blog was accessed only by stakeholders from India but slowly stakeholders from other parts of the world also started patronising it for getting authentic information on development taking place in India on sustainable procurement. The author intends to continue writing on this blog to espouse the cause of implementing sustainable procurement in India. Many of the views and ideas expressed on this blog by the author have indeed been adopted by policymakers in India. This speaks volume about the impact this blog has made on the development of an ecosystem for implementation of sustainable procurement in India. Also, the fact that this blog has been viewed more than 20,000 times during last 4 years speaks about the credibility of this blog for providing quality information on sustainable procurement in India.
