Climate Watch

  • Published on February 2, 2018
Climate Watch is an online platform that provides open climate data and data visualisations that can help policymakers, researchers and other stakeholders gather insights on national and global progress towards climate commitments. Users of Climate Watch can analyse and compare the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, access historical emissions data, and view the links between climate action and Sustainable Development Goals. Advanced search functions and interactive visualisations offer a new level of transparency that aims to inspire more ambitious commitments. Tourism planners might be particularly interested in exploring what climate policies support the achievement of SDGs relevant to tourism; such as decent work, infrastructure and sustainable communities.
Climate Watch was launched at UNFCCC COP23 in November 2017. It arrived at a particularly important time as governments are still refining their Nationally Determined Commitments (NDCs) and preparing to put them into place. Landscape analysis and user research had an important role in the design and development of Climate Watch. We identified an opportunity to make it much simpler to discover, explore and compare countries' commitments.
