Book publication: what will we eat tomorrow? Food Smart Cities leading the transition to sustainable food

  • Published on January 13, 2020
Through interviews with more than 130 people discover initiatives that make safer, healthier and more sustainable food accessible to citizens. The book tells stories from 9 cities in Vietnam, Belgium, Tanzania, Indonesia, Ecuador, Honduras and Nicaragua. In the book the authors tried to give answers to the question on what actions those cities (together with farmers, citizens, teachers, CSOs, private actors, ...) set up to provide their citizens now and in the future with sustainable and affordable food. With the publication we hope to inspire more cities and actors to start initiatives that enhance the quality and sustainability of our food.
The stories in the book show that there is no such thing as a standard approach to the transition of a food system, that every city is different and requires tailor-made solutions. The road to sustainable and inclusive food systems is not a linear process and the obstacles on this road sometimes seem endless. Our ability to learn and adapt in complex environments will be decisive. By trial and error, today's seekers pave the way for a next generation to ensure that healthy and sustainable food is accessible to all, today and in the future.
