Urban Afforestation Project

Urban Afforestation Project (UAP), started in 2018, aims at greening Delhi and protecting its existing green cover.Over the last decade, we have planted and survived over 12000 trees in total. These plantations have been carried out in collaboration with schools, colleges, RWAs, institutions and organisations.Each of our plantations have ensured a minimum survival rate of 80-90 percent.
Key objectives of the project include the following : 1. Fostering awareness on issues of depleting green cover and local biodiversity, among youth and civil society members 2. Large scale mobilisation and community engagement through the facilitation of hands on plantations across Delhi/NCR 3. Plant, promote and protect native trees of Delhi/NCR 4. Creation of lush green infrastructures including fruit forests, regenerative forests, butterfly and herb gardens, in order to tackle the issue of air pollution within the city. Through UAP, Swechha has planted, promoted and protected over 12,000 native trees across Delhi/NCR in the last three years, as part of this project, with a survival rate of 90%. Each of these plantations have been carried out with the support of hundreds of citizens of Delhi, including youth from schools and colleges . The project has ensured protection and promotion of green spaces in the city, Urban Afforestation, community mobilisation for the environment, carbon sequestration, environmental responsibility.
