Sustainable Built Environment (SBE) Conference series

  • Published on January 5, 2018
The Sustainable Built Environment (SBE) series of conferences began in 2000, operates on a three-year cycle and now includes five international organizations as co-owners: CIB, iiSBE, UN Environment, GABC and FIDIC. The SBE series operates on a 3-year cycle and includes peer-reviewed papers, presentations of regional policy papers and workshops on climate change issues. A total of 45 events have taken place since 2000, with 21 during the 2016-17 cycle, and 15 planned for 2018-20 cycle.
1. To introduce built environment sustainability approaches to regions where they are not fully accepted; 2. To raise awareness of climate change issues as it affects the built environment; 3. To promote networking of researchers with public agency and industry representatives; Event cycles in this conference series have been underway since 2000, with global events held in 2000, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2014 and 2017. National/regional events have taken place in Year 2 of each 3-year cycle, most recently 2010, 2013 and 2016. In 2016, members of SBC attended events in Prague, Tallinn, Cairo, Sydney, Manila and Malmö. A planning meeting is taking place in Paris on January 18-19 to discuss details of this cycle (2018-20), and regional events will take place beginning in October 2018 to the end of 2019, plus a global event in Gothenburg Sweden in 2020. All papers are refereed and will be indexed. The SBE website has recently been upgraded and is available at www.sbe-series.org. The series has global recognition and this evidenced by the fact that applicants for 2019 regional events include organizations from Tokyo, Taipei, Sydney, Temuco (Chile), as well as at least 10 from Europe.
