Reference Center on Circular Economy

  • Published on September 19, 2014
A “Reference Center on circular economy” was set up in January 2014 in order to assist SMEs willing to be involved in circular economy. The Center acts as contact point to connect the different stakeholders, gives advices and shares good practices. This project is supported by the Walloon Government and in particular by the Minister of Sustainable development and the Minister of Economy.
Assist SMEs willing to be involved in circular economy through actions such as waste reducing, sustainable business innovation, eco-conception, flux mutualization etc. The Reference Center on Circular Economy takes actions on the following aspects: - Awareness-raising of the Walloon companies about the challenges and opportunities of circular economy in a perspective of sustainable resource management; - Management of the circular economy fund for the Walloon SMEs which should help building new partnerships between private actors based on a circular economy logic; - Coordination of the work on construction materials in a circular economy logic. The action plan consists of four stages: 1 ° TO KNOW: - Carry out a monitoring of the initiatives taken in circular economy in Wallonia and internationally and spread the most innovative and sustainable practices; - Establish a documentary center; - Act as a contact point for any organization looking for information on best practices in circular economy. 2 ° TO CONVINCE AND TO MOBILIZE: - Raise awareness among companies regarding the challenges and the opportunities of circular economy. 3 ° TO ADVISE: - Facilitate networks and collaborations between the operators and partner organizations (NEXT program, research centre, industry associations…); - Build international partnerships and promote exchange of experiences with foreign countries in the field of circular economy and sustainable materials management. 4 ° TO HELP TO REALIZE: - Identify companies willing and able to take part in technical-economic studies or pilot projects for the structuring of sectors.
