RECUP & REBOWL: eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastics

RECUP and REBOWL is a social enterprise in Germany that addresses the issue of single-use waste occured during food and berage consumption. The initiative provides resuables cups and bowls in deposit stations throughout German cities.

The lack of more sustainable options is one of the main reasons behind consumer-waste during food and beverage consumption. In Germany alone, 2.8 billion of disposable cups were consumed in Germany every year. With RECUP and REBOWL, the initiative offers a deposit system for coffee-to-go and take-away food. The iniative caters to the trend of "to-go" consumption and at the same time offers an uncomplicated and attractive alternative to disposable packaging. A RECUP replaces up to 1,000 disposable cups in the course of its life. It is cleaned in the catering dishwasher like normal dishes and then put back into the cycle. The RECUP deposit cup is 100% recyclable and free of BPA and harmful substances. With him you will become a green pioneer. The deposit system for to-go and take-away is now available at over 10,600 issuing points throughout Germany. This is an innovative and sustainable response to SDG12 that could be replicated across the globe.
