Project submitted on development of e-platform and interdisciplinary MSc study program for sustainable food production and diets at University of Novi Sad in Serbia

The activity aims to create synergy between agriculture, food production, nutrition and diets as the unique model of interdisciplinary program aiming to develop sustainable food system research in Serbia. The main objective of the project is to strengthen research and innovation capacities of the University of Novi Sad in the field of sustainable food production and diets in close collaboration with internationally-leading research institutions whose expertise will cover all the topics of interest in the specific research area. Strengthening the knowledge and research capacities in sustainable food production and diets at University of Novi Sad will significantly contribute to their positioning as research institution at regional and European level, creating an opportunity to become a pioneer and founder of sustainable food system research in Western? Balkan Countries (WBC). Further, this will enable transfer of fundamental and applied knowledge, high quality and up-to-date methodologies in the sustainable food system, to all actors of Serbian food system, and hence contribute to the economic and social development in the country. This project will foster knowledge generation and capacity building of the University of Novi Sad in the field of sustainable food production and diets and thus to improve research and innovation excellence of its academic staff. The long term goal is establishment of the interdisciplinary research and study program for sustainable food production and diets within the University of Novi Sad which will provide education, knowledge transfer and networking in sustainable food system. For the first time, at the University of Novi Sad there will be established an e-learning platform. Furthermore, basis for creating Sustainable Food Based Dietary Guidelines in Serbia will be provided.
The activity resulted in building network of research and education institutions and experts who recognized the importance of synergistic cooperation in sustainable food systems and enhance potential of UNS FINS to run national and international scientific research projects in sustainable food systems. Linking research, technology/process and education in building sustainable diets will encourage shared innovative practice via collaboration with internationally recognised institution in the areas of agriculture, food, nutrition and diets.
