Production of low cost paints using residual sludge as raw material

  • Published on January 8, 2020
Use of the solids settled in the trap system of the water-based paint production process as raw material to produce low cost paints.
Economic use of the residual sludge of the water-based paint production process, providing an alternative product to local state consumers such as educational and health institutions (low cost paints for surface protection and facilities maintenance). Contribute to the reduction of the negative environmental impacts associated to the transportation, processing and final disposal of these wastes. • Use of 18.8 tons per year of residual sludge which are not disposed of to the environment. Cost and impacts associated to their transportation, processing and final disposal are avoided. • Local state consumers have a new option of low cost paints, which contributes to local development programs. • Reduction of the import of raw materials to produce low cost paints. • Involvement of small and medium enterprises in the productive and value chain. • Increment of 1,3% of the annual production of alternative paints applying sustainable practices. 1. Promotion of the new products among the potential consumers to increase their demand. 2. Involvement of local small and medium enterprises in the alternative productions. 3. Follow-up the commercialization process, identification of weaknesses and development of strategies to solve them.
