Pioneering Recycling park Alelyckan prevents almost 400 tonnes of waste each year

  • Published on November 12, 2020
Alelyckan recycling park in Gothenburg was developed as a pioneering facility, where objects perceived as waste are received, repaired, processed and sold on site. The park includes a waste and recycling facility and a café, a second hand shop, a workshop for renovating furniture and bicycles, and a store for used building materials like windows, closets, tiles, and WCs. Apart from bringing new life to objects and materials, the facilities also offer vocational training for unemployed people.
The facility contributes to sustainable consumption by preventing waste. The Alelyckan recycling park in Gothenburg city with about 500 000 inhabitants, prevents 500 tonnes of waste a year by allowing products to be reused instead of being thrown away. The reduction in environmental impact corresponds to emissions of greenhouse gases from 430 cars driving 1,500 km each. Compared to conventional recycling centers Alelyckan thus makes it possible to go up in the waste hierarchy, since both incineration and recycling decreases in favor of reuse. If all five recycling centers in Gothenburg were converted into Recycling Parks, about 2,200 tonnes of waste could be prevented each year. This corresponds to just over 5% of all waste left at the local recycling centers. Visit Recycling park Alelyckan or Contact per.hogedal@kretsloppochvatten.goteborg.se.
