Paper Reduction Initiative
Reduce the consumption of paper by the implementation of new technologies and by fostering responsible consumption
In 2016, the Secretary-General launched the "Paper Reduction Initiative". The initiative encouraged that official documents should be shared in digital format instead of printed. In addition, the Organisation introduced an online platform to work collaboratively and share documents, which enabled to hold paperless meetings. This initiative was supported by a greater distribution of laptops, instead of desktops, which allows more mobility. In terms of printing, the Organisation implemented a digital tool that controls and reduces office printing. By default, documents are printed in black and white, using both sides, and deleting unwanted jobs. Also, it allows to monitor personal printing data. All paper and envelopes used are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), of which 60% is recycled. Through cutting paper consumption by 66% since 2011, the OECD has saved 205 tonnes of paper.
