Korea ecotourism destinations assessment

There are total 20 ecotourism destinations that are designated by the Korean Ministry of Environment. The destinations are assessed in terms of environmental, socio-cultural, economic, and managerial sustainability. The assessment is implemented for the destinations have their 3-year term after the designation. There were 4 destinations assessed this year.
The objectives of the assessment is to show the status of Korean ecotourism destinations' sustainability in environmental, socio-cultural, economic management, and managerial system. There are assessment tool developed based on GSTC criteria and Korean ecotourism standards. Experts visited the destinations and held meetings with stakeholders. All evidences had to be collected and then their status of sustainability was reported. We expect local stakeholders became to understand the criteria for sustainable tourism and learned how to apply them to their destinations.
