  • Published on September 27, 2018
In collaboration with school administration WELFARE TOGO is facilitating establishment of SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTAL CLUBS and MONDAY AFTERNOON STUDENT DEBATES on various topics including sustainable production and consumption, climate change, chemical safety, environmental protection, human and environmental rights, etc. In 2017 this project won the UNEP ENERGY GLOBE AWARD.
To increase awareness among students on issues related to sustainable development and livelihoods 1. Club debates - students organized into groups of 25 students with 50% girls as a minimum requirement 2. Monday afternoon debates open to all students in a particular school, 3. Community clean up campaign - last Saturday of each month students participate in community cleaning. 1. Increased awareness on sustainable production and consumption 2. Initiation of school afforestation projects 3. Improved academic performance by club members 4. Improved leadership skills 5. Improved environmental and personal hygiene We would like to replicate the project in more schools and also provide back up support to schools that participated in the first phase. Other stakeholders may participate by providing financial support or by contributing equipment such as public address systems and video cameras for production of documentaries
