Inter School Environmental Public Speaking Competition 2018
As part of its ongoing commitment to Education for Sustainable Development, EEG organises annually the bilingual Inter School Environmental Public Speaking Competition (ISEPSC) to engage and involve students in research on vital environmental issues. Through this, their young minds are fuelled with a drive to find environmental solutions for the country and the world at large.
The main objectives of the Programme are:
• To motivate the student community on the various environmental issues
• To develop students’ public speaking skills, enhance their confidence and personality
• To serve as a platform for future generations to express their concern over the fragile environment and to find ways to preserve and protect it
• To recognise the contribution made by the youth in the field of environmental protection
The 2018 cycle of the ISEPSC witnessed the participation of 87 schools, comprising 644 students, teachers and guests. The topics competed on were:
1. Impact of Wars on the Environment
2. Agriculture: A feasible future for the region
3. Impact of Fashion and Make Up Industry on the Environment
4. Sustainable Built Environment: Are we achieving it?
The Competition was divided into the Sub-Senior (13-15 years) and Senior (16-18 years) categories.
This being the 18th cycle of the Competition, we have seen tremendous growth since its inception in 2001.
The breakdown of participation in the United Arab Emirates is as follows:
• Dubai 52%
• Abu Dhabi 27%
• Sharjah 12%
• Ras Al Khaimah 4%
• Fujairah 1%
• Ajman 3%
• Umm Al Quwain 1%
To demonstrate growth over the years, the following data for participating schools can be considered:
• Cycle 1 2001: 37 participating schools
• Cycle 4 2004: 55 participating schools
• Cycle 13 2013: 62 participating schools
• Cycle 16 2016: 75 participating schools
• Cycle 18 2018: 87 participating school
EEG has several plans in the pipeline to increase the impact of this programme. With the right partnership, we would like to implement the following:
• Invite experts in the field of sustainability and environmental conservation as judges
• Provide participating teams with more props such as increasing the software available for their presentations, increase the number of days to hold the competiton and other tools to use as part of their presentations
• Encourage participation from the more remote cities from all over the UAE
• To be able to conduct a mini competition in every Emirate
We would also like to invite private sector entities to work with us in this highly impactful programme both as sponsors and strategic Educational partners.
