Implementation of 10 School Up-scaling Projects for GSSS Project

  • Published on December 22, 2020
The objective is to implement sustainable projects in 10 schools in Namibia as part of the GSSS Project under the 10YFP.
The expected achievements are: 1. Sustainable projects successfully implemented in all selected schools by July 2021; 3. Greening of the learning environment achieved through increasing investment and application of the sustainable use of energy, water, waste, and sustainable food production approaches in the school environment; 4. Clean up clubs and sustainability clubs established and capacitated in Namibian schools; 5. Namibia's three environmental education centers strengthened to educate the youth, particularly disadvantaged learners on issues of sustainable consumption and production. Over the past year, the GSSS Project-Namibia has received feedback from various players including our implementers (schools); donors; and implementing partners on issues of administration, technical, and financial planning. As we are all aware, the corona virus outbreak presented challenges to the GSSS Project this year. While it was necessary to tackle the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, it was sad that we had to postpone/cancel visits to our implementing schools. With travel restrictions lasting some months during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, we had to halt most of our planned face-to-face meetings and activities. However, during the last quarter of 2020, we managed to procure materials for the implementation of sustainability projects at 10 schools, and the project activities are progressing well currently. With positive news of availability of vaccines, we firmly hope that the COVID-19 situation will improve in 2021 and that we will be able to finally implement all the project activities.
