HUGO INDEX has been designed to measure people’s impact to our planet, but also from products, brands, vehicles, restaurants and services for each city, state, country and region. The index allows to: (i) calculate a person’s habitat undoing level, (ii) learn about her/his opportunity windows to become more eco-friendly and less harmful to the planet, (iii) be aware of products, brands and services index (until now only completed for those sold in the Mexican market), (iv) grant access to video tutorials for an eco-friendly lifestyle.
Our foundation was established 20 years ago (2000) after 3 expeditions to Everest when we became one of the very few expeditions to bring down almost 1,000 pounds of garbage from South Col in Everest (26,000 feet). By 2006 after 5 years of research we published a Master Plan to face Climate Change that advises on 10 broad-spectrum programs including a path to transit into green economy worldwide (green production-green consumption-green lifestyle). As a result of our work for so many years, today we have created the first quantity-quality index to measure our impact towards the planet as persons, but also to all main products, brands, vehicles, restaurants and services that we find in the stores and markets. At the same time we have produced video tutorials on how become more ecofriendly, consume ecofriendly goods and switch to a green lifestyle: all that is available through an APP that is ready to use for free. At this moment we only present data for Mexico but it is our mission to expand it in each country interested, and that’s why we search for funds.
Among variables for individual’s index some are: type of transportation, distances, type of home, use of electricity, water, plastic, paper, packages, waste output, type of food-beverages, type of workout, kind of job-role, integrity, environment awareness, respect for pets and animals, etc. Among variables for products, brands, services some are: type of industry, oil, gas, electricity, water, plastic, paper, cardboard, batteries consumption, waste output, type of materials, ingredients, chemistry and toxic components, suppliers, distance of suppliers, distribution centers, commercialization structure, etc. Variables or indicators can be added without changing the mathematical composition of INDEX.

https://apps.apple.com/mx/app/hugo-index/id1508038758 “Habitat Undoing & Greenhouse-emissions Outrage Index” (HUGO INDEX) measures through a conventional methodology, without theoretical or mathematical complexity, the impact of a certain person over the habitat and our planet. Such impact is certainly correlated with greenhouse-emissions but also with several quality factors that influence the process of generating low or high emissions. Under the same framework the methodology works to calculate products, brands, vehicles, restaurants and services index, understanding that, in this case the index is created to advice people and consumers on the items that are less eco-friendly. From there a person may decide what’s better to buy if really committed to make the difference for the planet.
HUGO INDEX is already available in our APP through Google Play Store and APP Store in Spanish for the Mexican market (July 25, 2020). By mid-August the APP will allow people to calculate their index in English but not getting info on products for other country different than Mexico. Notwithstanding, to be successful we must develop our APP from a leading country or an international institution on Environmental Policy, since Mexican entities seem not to be interested in leading the way for a greener world.
The first task was to define five categories to total 100%. First category represents 35% for being directly tied up to greenhouse-emissions, second category 30%, third 20%, fourth 10% and fifth 5% -from quantity to quality criteria. The value of each category is given as an average figure that comes out of the sum of every variable inherent to such category, so that the sum is divided by the number of variables. For that, it was previously defined a total of 40 variables, all linked to human activity that in the aftermath arise as greenhouse-emissions or impact to our habitat. In the same way the index for products, brands, vehicles, restaurants and services, and even for companies, gather data associated with raw materials distance from manufacturer, as well with general suppliers, distributors, points of sale, type of transportation and much more. In order to select a value per variable it was given five indicators expressed in value between 0 (zero) and 10 (ten). For version 1.0 which is the one already launched there were five indicators only, inked to a quiz of five questions. HUGO INDEX results in a value from 0 to 200, where 0 – 50 is eco-friendly, 51 – 100 bearable, 101 – 150 adverse, 151 – 200 highly adverse. We are interested in globalizing our APP, to take it to all countries possible through funds we could get. So far it is me (Hugo Rodriguez Barroso) paying for all expenses, not to mention that at the same time, we have produced an environmental campaign to encourage people to become eco friendly by assuming a green lifestyle and green consumption (Youtube “Reinicializate”).
In order to expand in a very effective way our project, we believe that countries in the European Union are a perfect match considering European leadership on Climate Change and Environmental Policies, as well as for the awareness of their people and citizens on this matters.
Besides getting funds we would like to partner with and international institution or local university to gather information from products, brands, vehicles, restaurants and services provided and sold locally to upload the data into the APP. This is a huge work and outstanding effort but we do believe the only way to transit into green economy is to modify people’s lifestyle and consumption. There-at companies shall observe the greatest economic growth and so their countries just for reinventing their products. In the end, HUGO INDEX and its APP are a tool to accelerate the world into a green economy worldwide for the benefit of our Planet and human race.
