Guidance about ecosystem services in built up areas

  • Published on January 15, 2018
Boverket in Sweden has started a work on guiding and communicating about ecosystem services and nature based solutions in built up areas: in urban areas, cities and villages. The guidance will include comprehensive planning, detailed planning, building permits, construction and management of the built up area. The guidance is thus directed to different target groups, for example planners, builders, project developers, construction entrepreneurs and estate managers.
At the national level, the impact objective is that the project will contribute to increased knowledge of ecosystem services in planning, construction and management and increased know how and co-ordination among the different actors. At Boverket's web site you can find information about ecosystem services in planning, construction and management. Boverket has also developed the inspiration brochure Nature's services in the city - for good and enjoyment! which highlight different actors in the community building chain and how they work with ecosystem services. Together with the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, Boverket has developed infographics of ecosystem services in the city. The aim of the guidance is to facilitate the target groups to actively work with ecosystem services and thus create better habitats for humans, plants and animals in the built environment. Developing the green structure also helps to address several of the challenges facing the built environment today, such as adaptation to a changing climate, social integration, densification and a increased construction.
