  • Published on January 12, 2021
Green The Map Podcast and Masterclass series in partnership with the US Dept. of State is an initiative launched by Swechha aimed at facilitating a series of podcasts and online workshops/masterclasses, engaging practitioners from around the country, on empowering and equipping citizens on issues of climate change and community resilience. The key objective of the project is to ‘reimagine and rebuild our world’, through ‘relevant and practical’ solutions that meet the real needs of people.
The key objective of the project is to ‘reimagine and rebuild our world’, through ‘relevant and practical’ solutions that meet real needs of the people (individuals, families, neighbourhoods and communities), and achieving this through building community resilience during and after covid. We want to build the capacities of individuals as well as communities on future preparedness vis-à-vis ecological issues, as Covid and Climate crisis together is presenting an unprecedented threat to human life and misery. Through the project, we are presently developing a series of 6 online podcasts and 5 masterclasses on a fortnightly basis, over the course of 6 months. These would focus on the need for community resilience through environmental conservation, environmental justice and environmental action, and also focus on ‘green’ stimulus going forward. Through the facilitation of these digital mediums, our objective is to build a more resilient and well-prepared community that would be able to anticipate and address climate crisis threats and public health emergencies, on a more immediate basis. Each of these podcasts and webinars would engage citizens on the best practices and policies that can be implemented at local levels to tackle immediate problems, as well as address the need for global advocacy in environmental issues. These digital podcasts and masterclasses are being conducted in partnership with leading experts, practitioners and organisations that have been working in the fields of environmental conservation, environmental justice, and environmental action through community engagement and advocacy. A variety of issues related to climate change, co-relation between environment and health, sustainable and responsible consumption, environmental threats to communities and ways to mitigate them as first responders, would be addressed through these online sessions. Each of these podcasts and webinars are being conducted in the form of informal discussions, talks/lecture series and formal panel discussions. The measure and impact of the success of this project will be evaluated based on the number of people we are able to reach out to with our webinars and tutorials, along with looking at how many of them adapt to the community resilient ways post our intervention. Our objective is to build a more resilient and well-prepared community that would be able to anticipate and address climate crisis threats and public health emergencies, on a more immediate basis.
