Food-Wise Community

1) A holistic approach: Anyone, anywhere, anytime Solutions concerning food challenges often look at one aspect, eg hunger or obesity, climate or food waste. Intractable individually, these problems can be addressed holistically at community level. Food solutions start from our daily life. 2) A horizontal approach: Multi-stakeholder engagement Community is a perfect platform for bringing food stakeholders together, since it is where lifestyles and behaviour are rooted and synergies can be obtained. 3) Behaviour change: Long-term impact Global Action Plan International is a global leader in sustainable behaviour change. We incorporate behaviour change principles into all our programs. Longitudinal academic studies show that participants in our empowering programs tend to a) Try many new behaviours during the program, b) Keep most of those as ingrained habits, c) Introduce new sustainable habits long after the program has finished.
The objectives of the program: 1. Five communities in five countries (China, Hungary, Italy, Spain and Peru) will have an identified stakeholder group including six sectors (local authories, food processor, food producer, food distributor, households and big kitchens). 2. The stakeholder group take concrete actions on three topics: Food waste; food environment&climate; food and health. 3. The stakeholder group develops a strategic action plan for the community based on the concrete actions they take in point2 1. Six training modules for local leaders who will manage the program and lead round-table discussions for the community stakeholder groups 2. Leaders identify representatives of the six stakeholder groups in the community 3. A workbook and 18 action packs for the stakeholder groups are supplied, to be translated and culturally adapted to the local language 4. Leaders conduct four round-tables over 4-6 months 5. Stakeholder groups identify, prioritize and implement actions 6. The stakeholder groups develop a strategic food action plan To be reported by end 2015. The current stage is our Food-Wise Community Phase I. We have Phase II and Phase III for next step. Phase II: 12-18 months. The goal is to implement the strategic action plan and make a long-term development plan Phase III: continuation towards a Food-Wise community At the same time, we want to recruit more communities to conduct this program, starting from Phase I. We have discussed with potential communities in Ukraine, UK, Germany, etc. Johanna Wong, Project Manager Related events : - Presentation of interim results during World Expo 2015 in Milano - Presentation of the program and program results in World Resources Forum - EU ERASMUS application
