Emirates Green Building Council Hospitality Program
To support properties in reducing their carbon footprint by improving water & energy performances, waste management, education and awareness, Emirates Green Building Council launched in 2013 its Hospitality Program. The Program aims at being a comprehensive and relevant information source to the following hotel-related stakeholders, spanning across all levels of technical understanding and roles within the hospitality industry.
As part of the Program, EmiratesGBC would like to give U.A.E. hotels, resorts and serviced apartments the opportunity to benchmark their energy performance relative to their peers and comparable properties. The EmiratesGBC benchmarking tool and reporting process are planned to cover water and energy performances. Hotels that are taking part in the program will be asked to provide accurate monthly data which will be recorded and analyzed against the other properties.
In line with training and benchmarking activities, Emirates GBC is also National Operator for Green Key in the UAE, awarding properties with the worldwide eco-certification for their performance and achievements in the fields of energy, water, waste, staff and guests education.
The experts of Emirates Green Building Council are also developing training modules covering key areas for greening a property's operations (energy, water, waste, purchasing, CSR...). The training modules are developed in a format that can be tailored to assist any level of hotel staff, addressing general facts on green hospitality for those less informed, while also covering more technical aspects that can support the engineering department. The level of customization will therefore change upon request and actual needs of each group. In line with training and benchmarking activities, Emirates GBC is also National Operator for Green Key in the UAE, awarding properties with the worldwide eco-certification for their performance and achievements in the fields of energy, water, waste, staff and guests education. Results will be used to build an analytical report which will cover the hotel's achievements, its position against the properties of the same category, and tips to improve performances. Increasing visibility of EmiratesGBC as key stakeholders and pool of experts on the green hospitality movement in the UAE benchmarking – training – knowledge sharing via seminars, participations to conferences… For more information on the Hospitality Program contact info@emiratesgbc.org or 971 (0)4 346 8244.External source(s)
