Electrification of Tuk tuks

The project was initiated to have an impact on the environment while helping the Tuk tuk drivers to save money on their daily hires by converting to electric. Our conversion units offer a simple, affordable conversion with much improved mileage.
1.To convert all the existing two stroke tuk tuks to electric since they emit comparatively higher amount of GHG emissions 2.To convert four stroke tuk tuks upon completion of converting two stroke tuk tuks 3. To measure the total GHG reduction made annually by conversions 4. To uplift the lives of tuk tuk drivers by saving them money on their daily hires With an LCA study it was found that by converting a two stroke tuk tuk to electric, the related CO2 emissions can be reuced by 65%. Overall if half of the existing two stroke tuk tuks are converted to electric, an annual CO2 reduction of 300,000 tons can be achieved. Running with electricity is more energy efficient and cost effective with the unit price for electricity in Sri Lanka. Hence, there will be monetary savings for the drivers. 1. Two version of a prototype was built and tested 2. Third iteration of the prototype is currently being built 3. Next target is to convert 5 tuk tuks for further testing for performance 1. An annual CO2 reduction of 300,000 tons by the year 2022 2. Improving local manufacturing and production 3. Uplifting the lives of tuk tuk drivers 4. Job creation for the lower income class Stakeholders can get involved at the implementation stage where investments will be needed to establish the workshops to carry out conversions.
