In 2019, the development of Uzbekistan's own environmental labeling system began. Support in the development was provided by specialists from the NGO Ecological Union, the operator of the international eco-label “Vitality Leaf”.
The partnership agreement was signed in Tashkent by the Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zhusipbek Kazbekov and the head of the Ecological Union certification body Evgenia Kuznetsova.
Uzbekistan started developing a national eco-label in 2019. The best option was considered to be a life cycle eco-label, which takes into account all stages of production - from the receipt of raw materials to the disposal of packaging. Uzbek specialists requested assistance from Russian specialists through the Global Ecolabelling Association. In Russia such a certification system "Vitality Leaf" has been successfully operating for 20 years already.
Ecological Union specialists have already conducted two stages of training for their Uzbek colleagues. The training program includes information on which products it is better to develop eco-standards for, how to promote eco-labeled products on the world market, and so on.
At the end of 2021, we developed criteria for 10 product groups for Uzbekistan and together adapted them for Uzbekistan. They will go through the necessary procedures in Uzbekistan and will be formalized in their national standards
