  • Published on January 10, 2019
Over recent years there has been a surge in Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT). The World Travel & Tourism Council's (WTTC) aim is to provide a coordinated approach from the sector as a whole through a high-level declaration - the Buenos Aires Declaration.
To participate actively and drive a coordinated approach for tourism to contribute to the fight against wildlife trade. In April 2018, WTTC launched the Travel & Tourism Declaration on Illegal Wildlife Trade, a commitment made by Members to participate actively in the global fight against illegal wildlife trade. Six months on, support from over 100 CEOs of global Travel & Tourism companies has been received. In October 2018, WTTC partnered with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to drive industry action. WTTC will create industry guidelines for Members and the wider industry to encourage the adoption of a Zero Tolerance Policy for IWT. Alongside this, WTTC, WWF and other partners including Google and C-trip are working on ambitious plan to use digital technology and the power of the Travel & Tourism signatories’ distribution networks to engage a broad audience. It is expected to change behaviour of 1 billion travellers. WTTC is always looking for signatories of the declaration
