  • Published on January 31, 2019
A cooperation agreement has been signed between our association, together with the Association des Communes et Villes Unies du Cameroun (CVUC) and the Association Mairies Conseils in 2009. This agreement has been renewed in 2015 and aims at promoting a sustainable touristic development in Cameroon. Our initiative consists in supporting specifically the town of Mouanko to achieve a sustainable development of its touristic resources.
The initiatives aims at promoting a sustainable development of the touristic resources in the town of Mouanko in Cameroon (composed of approximately 20 000 inhabitants, alongside the Sanaga river), together with the Association des Communes et Villes Unies du Cameroun (CVUC) and the Association Mairie Conseils : - Our project aims more specifically at bringing support to grow the sustainable development of fishery (production and commercialization of clams mostly) by providing equipments and sharing good practices. -We also aim at : -Empowering women as local actors playing a role in the development of touristic resources (fishery), with the help of the NGO AFRECAM (Alliance des Femmes de la Réserve de Campo - Ma'an). -Valuing local natural resources (forest, animals) and promoting a sustainable tourism respectful of its environment. - Improving touristic equipments (accomodation, waterway transport). -Raising awareness on maritime pollution by providing tools and organizing groups to clean coastlines. In 2017, a delegation from our association, composed of Gérard RUIZ, former deputy mayor of Teste-de-Buch, environmental expert, in charge of the international cooperation in our association and Philippe BOENNEC, former French deputy and mayor of Pornic, has been to Cameroon to meet local representatives (Pierre Honoré EBWEA, mayor of Mouanko and Jacqueline ONDO, president of the NGO AFRECAM) and visit the equipments. They also took this opportunity to share good practices and introduce a workshop on how to find sustainable solutions to adapt coastal territories to climate change. As for now, our association has been in touch with the mayor of Mouanko with the perspective of developing projects of cooperation, together with the support of French coastal towns and the NGO AFRECAM . We are now on the process to answer a call for projects, presented by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. In parallel, our association got in touch with internal partners such as the Region Pays de la Loire, to think about the eventual support which could be provided (expertise, material) to help the fishery sector grow in Mouanko. Following the meeting of our delegation with local representatives in Cameroon in 2017, local projects of development are on the process in Mouanko. The mayor of Mouanko recently reported the creation of a training centre for fishermen and the project to build a 200 meters dock as part of the project to build a port so as to develop the local economy which is mostly based on fishery (clams). As far as the answer to the project call from the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs is concerned, we are now discussing with local representatives in Cameroon to identify which could be the areas of cooperation to come (among the ones detailed in the objectives section).
