China Chain Enterprise Actions of Promoting Green Operations for Tackling Climate Change

  • Published on February 5, 2020
Green Refrigeration is one of the key actions of Chinese retailers to address climate change. CCFA joined forces with partner organizations including Ministry of Environment & Ecology FECO(MEEFECO), GIZ, C-team and CBCA etc. to promote natural refrigerants' application among Chinese retailers. On the other hand, CCFA also promotes fresh food crates application to avoid possible food loss, and increase recycling of trays in the supply Chain.
For Green Refrigeration, CCFA developed the "Supermarket Refrigerant Management and Technical Operation Implementation Guidance" document. Based on the requirements of the "Ozone Depleting Substances Management Regulations" and combined with the spirit of the "National Action Plan for Green and Efficient Refrigeration" jointly issued by seven ministries and commissions such as the NDRC in 2019, a nine-item implementation guidelines for refrigerant management for retail companies was developed, including refrigerant management, formulation of systems management regulations, management and identification of refrigerant leakage, technical implementation specifications, and training of technicians etc. This Guidelines will provide step by step technical guidelines for improving refrigeration system management, reducing refrigeration leakage, and gradually adopt low-GWP referigeration systems. For enhancing green supply chain, CCFA issued the "Industry Initiative for Fresh Food Supply Chain Standardization Action Plan": In order to further promote the application and popularization of standardized fruit and vegetable turnover baskets and improve the efficiency of the entire industry's supply chain, the China Chain Store and Franchise Association has joined chain retail companies and urges retail colleagues to: In all links of the supply chain, enterprises uniformly use 400mm * 600mm and 300mm * 400mm standardized fruit and vegetable turnover crates. The non-compliant turnover crates will be eliminated year by year. The objective is in the end of 2021, Fruit and vegetable products directly sourced from the top 100 FMCG companies in China, more than 50% of SKUs are stored and transported in standardized fresh turnover crates.   Green Refrigeration: There are 3 workshops based on the "Supermarket Refrigerant Management and Technical Operation Implementation Guidance" have been implemented in 2019, 150 equipment managers from 50 retailers had participated in these workshops. The best practices of Chaoshifa Supermarket and Metro China of Application of CO2 systems have been included in the "2019 China Business Climate Action Cases" by C-team, Vanke Foundation, SEE Foundation and China Business Climate Action (CBCA), and released during the COP25 China Pavillion in December 2019. Enhancing green supply chain: The Initiative joined forces with 25 retailers and top suppliers from China and the number is still increasing.
