Awamu is a for-profit social and environmental enterprise which focuses on the manufacture of TLUD gasifier stoves and processed biomass fuels in Uganda. The company is a spin-off from the Wolrd Bank-funded BEIA project which promoted the Mwoto gasifier stove and was implemented in 2011 by CREEC - Makerere University. MISSION: To develop Top-Lit UpDraft (TLUD) gasifier stoves that utilize renewable energy from dry organic waste products, while increasing agricultural profitability and sustainability through environmentally responsible production of fuels. VISION: To become Africa's prefered brand of gasifier stoves. TECHNOLOGY: Gasifier stoves start within 3 minutes and cook faster than traditional wood stoves, 90% smoke free and produce less greenhouse emissions because woodgas created and burnt off by the stove, are 40% energy efficient, require no attention to fire while cooking because they are batch-fed, use little biomass fuels, can use a variety of residual biomass fuels and make charcoal as a byproduct which can be used for further cooking or sold off to earn income. MARKET: There is a Total Addressable Market of over 6 million households that currently use biomass for cooking purposes in Uganda. These include households mainly in rural communities but also in peri-urban and urban settings. -Awamu was recorgonized by UNEP as an exceptional social and environmental enterprise for its low carbon innovation at a colorful event in Nairobi in October 2013. -SEED Award Winner 2013 We are raising $150,944 which will go towards; 1. Increase market visibility and streamline distribution channels throughout the country ($11,600) 2. Increase awareness and access to AWAMU Gasifier Stoves (69,035) 3. Setup biomass processing unit to ease access to processed biomass fuels ($30,000) 4. Recruit more staff to support management, production and sales ($18,259) 5. Raise for more capital through venture capitals, investors, grants, and local partner support ($13,500) 6.
