Actions to be taken for the improvement of buildings energy efficiency in Egypt
The developer of Nabta Smart Town wanted to improve the sustainability of the city's Master Plan, particularly in terms of energy efficiency and CO2 emissions reduction. The goals of the activity were: to collect the localized data required, as accurately as possible; to build the energy profiles of the building typologies selected; to build the corresponding models and run the simulations using TRNSYS software; to provide recommendations based on the results of the sensitivity analysis for the reduction of the energy demand and the improvement of the energy efficiency, as well as for the integration of RES at building and district level.
The results offer solid evidence for the selection of the best options available that are suitable for the local context. In addition, there's a lot of potential for improvement when switching from building scale to district scale, and also when considering other passive features and nature-based solutions that can be easily implemented at district scale. This would not only reduce the energy demand, but improve the quality of life in the area and the citizens' well-being.
