Transforming Tourism Value Chains in developing countries and small island developing states (SIDS) to accelerate more resource efficient, low carbon development

  • Published on January 10, 2020
The vision for this roadmap is to make the Philippines a more competitive and globally recognised tourism destination, based on its sustainability credentials, natural beauty, and cultural identity. This is only possible through a more environmentally sustainable tourism sector that shows leadership in protecting the very foundations on which is it grounded.
We are expecting the tourism sector to adopt recommendations for each programme of the national roadmap. Several workshops have been and will be implemented next year to support the implementation of recommendations. A toolkit to assist key stakeholders in the implementation of the roadmap has also been developed by UN Environment including menu of activities for each solution. The Secretary of the Department of Tourism and the President, of theTourism Congress of the Philippines have fore-worded the roadmap so we expect commitment at very high level and some measure to be embedded in future tourism policies.
