Sustainable Label assessment online Platform "siegelklarheit.de"
The Sustainable Label assessment online Platform is guiding consumers through the label jungle. The online platform offers a trustworthy description and credible comparison of existing standards and labels in Germany. It highlights the labels that comply with minimum requirements within the areas of environmental, social and credibility principles. These minimum requirements are set by an independent expert group. A steering committee is responsible for the Siegelklarheit.de portal, in which the Federal Ministries for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), Justice and Consumer Protection (BMJV) and Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) are working together. The portal is operated by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project is based on close cooperation with international partners, in particular with the International Trade Center (ITC) and the ISEAL Alliance.
The Sustainable Label assessment online Platform supports sustainable consumption and sustainable purchase decisions by delivering highly reliable recommendations on product labels. Better access to information for consumers, especially through the identification of trustworthy and credible product labels, is among the key measures to enable more sustainable buying decisions. On the producer side, this creates incentives to develop sustainable products. The visualization of qualitative differences creates additional incentives to improve standards and products. By comparing the labels, the standard-setting organisations have an incentive to improve their framework for their criteria requirements.
