The Scheme for Environmental Management and Audit (EMAS)

The objective of EMAS, as an important instrument of the Sustainable Consumption and Productionand Sustainable Industrial Policy Action Plan, is to promote continuous improvements in the environmental performance of organisations by the establishment and implementation of environmental management systems by organisations, the systematic, objective and periodic evaluation of the performance of such systems, the provisionof information on environmental performance, an open dialogue with the public and other interested parties and the active involvement of employees inorganisations and appropriate training.

Through its focus, EMAS contributes to the introduction of more sustainable production models through resource efficiency, waste reduction, the promotion of sustainable procurement practices and creates conditions for the adoption of sustainable environmental reporting procedures through mandatory environmental quality indicators.
