Public tourism infrastructure (cycling tourism..)

Based on the Tourism Development Strategy for the period 2017.-2020., Croatia has included and recognized cycling tourism as one of the primary and fast-growing products and one of the most promising forms of tourism with a strong contribution to the development of all year-round tourism. Cycling tourism development plan with defined measures and activities for its coordinated and continuous development has the main goal to put Croatia in the position of one of the leading Mediterranean cycling tourism destinations.

Cycling and other forms of using bicycle in Europe are among the growing forms of tourism activities. It is estimated in Europe that cycling, as a share of travel, will increase in the coming years by more than ten percent, and even more important is the marketing segment of those for whom cycling is important.

Attractive and diverse natural environment, rich cultural and historical heritage from various periods, favorable climate, proximity to large markets, country safety and many roads with less traffic and bicycle routes provide Croatia with numerous comparative advantages for the development of cycling tourism.

Cyclotourism development plan has been made with defined measures and activities for coordinated and continuous development, the main goal is to put Croatia in the position of one of the leading Mediterranean cyclotourism destinations.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, cycling tourism, outdoor tourism and active tourism gained importance, and through the upcoming National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026. (NPOO) further investments are planned. In accordance with the values ​​and interests of 'new' tourists, further product diversification is expected and 'combined' products will be developed that connect, for example, adventure sports with gastronomy, culture or some socially useful activity as part of the 'journey with meaning'.

By adopting the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026. in the Ministry of Tourism and Sport, funds were provided for the development of public tourist infrastructure, guided by the objectives of F. component 1.6. development of sustainable, innovative and sustainable tourism through the next reform C 1.6. R1-I1 regional diversification and specialization of Croatian tourism through investments in the development of high value-added tourism products.
