Project Wastless

  • Published on February 14, 2023

In 2016, the National Food Chain Safety Office launched its program called Wasteless (Maradék nélkül), which focuses on measuring and reducing domestic food waste. In defining the objectives of the program, the thematic priorities of the European Union's Seventh Environment Action Program prevailed. The project’s principles are in compliance with the SDG 12 package.

The programme has four main targets:

  1. Measuring and reducing food waste in Hungarian households by changing consumer attitudes and behaviours.
  2. Increasing the level of knowledge and awareness of primary school students on the topic of food waste.
  3. Collecting good practices promoting the prevention of food waste, and on the basis of these, developing its own guide for the relevant actors in the food chain, in line with domestic legal practice.
  4. Establish cooperative relationships with other EU Member States to facilitate the international implementation of project elements.
