Philippine Disaster and Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010 (RA 10121)

  • Published on January 17, 2020
To provide methods, strategies and awareness in climate change adaptation and disaster prevention and mitigation, rehabilitation and recovery. The act will direct the country to respond to its vulnerability to natural disasters and climate change for a more resilient and more sustainable community.
The mainstreaming of CCAM and DRRM in the national, sectoral, and local development plans is constinuously prioritized in the country. From 2017-2019, Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP) and DRRM Plan (LDRRMP) were completed in 1,073 and 1,024 local government units (LGUs), respectively. Similarly, 748 LGUs have enhanced their Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUPs) in terms of improving their responsiveness to climate and disaster risks. This has been facilitated by the: (a) availability and accessibility of more science-based information to LGUs; (b) continuous conduct of climate and disaster risk/vulnerability assessment; and (c) increasing awareness and acceptance among LGUs on the importance of integrating climate and disaster-risk considerations in local planning and programming.
