National Youth Strategy (2009-2024)

88/2009. (X. 29.) Parliament Decree on National Youth Strategy, which outlines some of the challenges for Hungarian youth that need addressing, amongst others responsibility towards a sustainable future. As stated in the Vision, "Children, adolescents and youths will take part in their closer and intercultural communities with an inclusive, tolerant attitude, and both their national and European identities help them in building a sustainable, peaceful society". Also, sustainability is a horizontal objective of the strategy: "A livable environment – To change society's approach in order to meet the set of criteria of sustainable development". The role of this strategy is to set an agenda and to state priorities to actions. The 1535/2016. (X. 13.) Government Decree on the implementation of the National Youth Strategy Action Plan for 2016-2017 explicitly contains education for sustainable development and other actions that enhance the social and individual responsibility and awareness of youth age groups and facilitate their integration while developing their communities.

The Action Plans related to the National Youth Strategy list ESD-related content, including conscious consumption and promoting sustainable economy and production also as working opportunities related to these sectors.
