National Strategy for Food Waste Reduction
The National Strategy to Reduce Food Waste provides the framework to achieve a societal shift towards greater appreciation of food. The strategy outlines the participatory implementation process and the first concrete measures taken by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture within different fields of action. For instance, within the framework of the German Sustainability Strategy, an indicator is being developed that makes it possible to quantify food waste at all stages of the value chain. The document also highlights the potential of digital innovations to reduce food waste along the entire food chain.
The National Strategy to Reduce Food Waste is a major step towards achieving the 2030 goal to halve per capita food waste in Germany and to reduce food waste along the production and supply chain, including post-harvest losses.
