National Environmental Labelling- Environmentally Friendly Product

  • Published on December 30, 2019
The eco-label scheme of products is part of the sustainable consumption and production policy of the Community, which aims at reducing the negative impact of consumption and production on the environment, health, climate and natural resources. The eco-label scheme is intended to promote products with a reduced environmental impact during their entire life cycle and to provide consumers with accurate, non-deceptive, science-based information on the environmental impact of products.
The national eco-label "Environmentally Frendly  Product" is awarded by the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic to products or services that meet the specific conditions set out in the Communication of the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic for the relevant product group.
The national eco-label is the property of the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic and has a public law nature. It consists of two concentric circles, inside which is a stylised image of a triangle with three triangles depicting the components of the environment and the action of government, industry and commerce in caring for the environment. The upper half of the intermediate circle reads 'Environmentally Suitable Product', the lower half shows the identification number of the MoEW Notification under which the product has been assessed.

The eco-label scheme promotes Europe's transition to a circular economy, where materials stay in a loop, so new products begin when old ones end. This drives manufacturers to produce goods that promote green innovation and sustainable industries; generate less waste and CO2 when they are made and used; use energy, water and raw materials more wisely; last longer and are easier to repair and easier to recycle.
