Implementation of a sustainable and climate neutral Germany Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2020

  • Published on February 19, 2021
With the Climate Protection Program 2030 for the implementation of the Climate Protection Plan 2050 and the Federal Climate Protection Act, the federal government has set itself the goal of becoming climate neutral by 2030. The German government aims to make events, such as the EU Council Presidency in 2020, climate neutral. During its presidency, Germany promoted an updated version of the "Guidelines for the Sustainable Organization of Events". This guide shows ways to face the responsibility of organizing such an event and communicating this accordingly. Greenhouse gas emissions that cannot be avoided - such as greenhouse gas emissions from air travel by international guests - are offset by purchasing emissions certificates.
The organization of sustainable and climate-neutral events is a contributor to the shift to SCP. Participants can learn from such events how to organize their own events in a more sustainable way.
