Guidelines for the Implementation of the Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management Program

  • Published on February 10, 2021
The guidelines aims to comprehensively, manage, address and effectively reduce the drivers and threats of degradation of the coastal and marine ecosystems in order to achieve and promote sustainability of ecosystem services, food security, and climate change resiliency for the benefit of the present and future generations.

CMEMP contributes to achieving sustainable food systems and efficient use of natural resources, which are key to sustainable consumption and production. In particular, its component on the establishment of Marine Protected Area Networks (MPAN) is a measure to scale-up the implementation of individual Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to ensure the protection and conservation of interconnected coastal and marine ecosystems and their ecosystem services. Also under CMEMP is the implementation of Biodiversity-Friendly Enterprise which involves the utilization of resources leaning towards sustainability and further enhancement of resources in which the community will have an increased appreciation of biodiversity through its ecosystem services. In addition, CMEMP also operates following the Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) Framework which refers to the ridge-to-reef approach employing an integrative and interactive planning process in addressing the complex management issues affecting the coastal and marine areas.
