German Federal Ecodesign Award
Annually, in cooperation with the International Design Center Berlin (IDZ), the Federal Ministry for the Environment and the Federal Environment Agency award the Federal Ecodesign Award for products that are outstanding in their design, their ecological quality and their innovative approach. The competition is aimed at companies from all sectors, from start-ups to market leaders. For companies and designers, the competition provides a platform for showcasing products and ideas of outstanding ecological and design quality. The overarching objective is to promote innovation and to support the market introduction and diffusion of environmentally sound products. The award is launched in the competition categories product, service, concept and young-talent.
The impact of products and services on the environment is significantly determined by their design. It is therefore important to consider the ecological consequences of materials and production processes as early as during the conceptualization process. Designers can contribute significantly to ecological change through the creation of sustainable, aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly solutions. The Federal Ecodesign Award promotes the development, market introduction and diffusion of these products.
