Establish Low Carbon Consumption and Production in Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines ("SCP TIP")

  • Published on January 6, 2020
The project supports national governments in their development of mitigation strategies in the agro-food sector. Companies are encouraged to implement sustainable business models and are offered support on this path. Consumer awareness regarding sustainable consumption and production (SCP) is raised through the engagement of opinion leaders and communication campaigns. Thailand: SCP is serving as a solution model to land degradation and deforestation, with model sites for sustainable agriculture in Northern Thailand and sustainable supply chains to the Thai retail sector. These models should reveal ways out of the destructive monocrop maize production. Indonesia: Contributions to NDC implementation in the agricultural sector, focusing on palm oil production, are evolved and sustainable business models are implemented. Philippines: National strategies for SCP are developed, especially relating to models for reducing GHG emissions in the food service industry and focusing on tourism.
Given that the agricultural sector, production and consumption of food is among the major contributors to the global warming and impacts on the ecosystem, therefore it can potentially mitigate the GHG emissions through the promotion and integration of sustainable consumption and production (SCP) principle into the government policies, business and consumers practices. Consumer preference and demands have direct influence on business and government decision, leading to more sustainable product innovations and policies. The project goal is to ensure that the SCP principles will be integrated and embedded in policies or strategies of the government and business sector, and consumer behavior in order to achieve GHG emission reductions and increasing sustainable development in the agricultural and forestry sectors. The project's reinvestment in the agricultural and forestry sector alongside national governments and relevant key stakeholders will take lead in forging a green path towards the prioritization and governance of a healthy ecosystem.
