Certification of the Maldives skipjack pole and line fisheries

  • Published on January 12, 2020
The main goal of this certification is to promote environmentally and ecologically sustainable fishery.
Each MSC certified fishery has been independently assessed on its specific impacts to wild fish populations and the ecosystems they're part of. The MSC is the only wild-capture fisheries certification and ecolabelling program that meets best practice requirements set by both the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) and ISEAL, the global membership association for sustainability standards. Hence such certification for Maldivian skipjack pole and line fisheries will ensure fishing to be at a sustainable level and hence fish population can remain productive and healthy. Moreover, regular DNA testing has shown that MSC labelled products are correctly labelled. Hence, consumers can trust that the fish is what its packaging or menu says it is.
