Aviation Tax

  • Published on December 17, 2019

The climate cost of aviation is very high. Since fuel taxes on jet fuel is more or less prohibited is the passenger tax a second-best solution to reduce CO2 emissions and the high altitude climate effect. The tax level is however too low to make a major reduction in demand for air travel and reduction of emissions.

It makes flying a little bit less cheap. The tax internalizes -to only a small extent though - costs for external effects.
