Urban Afforestation Project (UAP), started in 2018, aims at greening Delhi and protecting its existing green cover.Over the last decade, we have planted and survived over 12000 trees in total. These plantations have been carried out in collaboration with schools, colleges, RWAs, institutions and organisations. Each of our plantations have ensured a minimum survival rate of 80-90 percent.

Objective
- Protection and promotion of green spaces in the city - Urban Afforestation through community mobilisation and large scale plantations - Carbon sequestration through planting and maintenance of native trees - Advocacy based campaigns around trees and biodiversity of Delhi/NCR - Improvement in overall air quality
Achievements
Through our Urban Afforestation Project this year, Swechha planted, promoted and protected over 3,000 native trees across Delhi/NCR, with a survival rate of 90%. Each of these plantations have been carried out with the support of hundreds of citizens of Delhi, our youth volunteers, as well as in collaboration with local government authorities and resident welfare associations. Some of the key activities undertaken as part of the project included identification of spaces, collaboration with government authorities and civil society members, procurement of native tree saplings, design and development of communication materials, plantation of over 3000 trees across 9 different locations within Delhi/NCR. Our plantations and urban afforestation initiatives have not only involved the support of thousands of volunteers, but have also helped in significantly reducing temperatures and improving air quality in surrounding neighbourhoods. Each of these plantations are monitored regularly by our on-ground staff and Swechha ensures a healthy survival rate until maturity and sustainability of trees planted each year. In the past decade, through our urban afforestation initiatives including this project, and our annual environmental campaign 'Monsoon Wooding', we have planted over 60,000 native trees, created several fruit forests and regenerative native forests across Delhi/NCR, with a survival rate of 85-90%.
